Mary Poppins Birthday Party

When J turned 4 she was really into the story of the famous British nanny.

Her outfit was based on Mary's carrousel ride outfit. I did not think J would handle the big hat with tulle very well, so instead I made her a little tulle hat hairclip.

We made little kite-shaped chalkboards for the boys

and Mary Poppins dolls for the girls.

I used a slightly altered version of the Black Apple doll (details courtesy of Martha here)

and added accessories.

with a little thank you note from Mary herself

Tuxedo-wearing penguin pinata

The children decorated "carpet bags" with foam cut-outs of umbrellas, kites, flowers

and images of Bert and Mary

We had a very respectable horse race

and cupcakes topped with pink marzipan penguins

Happy Birthday J!
