Despicable Me Minion piñata

I have received questions and emails from some of you regarding piñatas.
Making your own piñata is really not hard. You have to plan a little bit in advance
because it needs to have time to dry, but your children can even help with most of it.
This is the minion piñata we made this year for the Despicable Me birthday.
What you will need:
- newspaper
- paper maché paste (there are a ton of options out there, mixing flour with water,
or mixing white glue with water. I actually buy a powder that you mix with water.
For the Swiss people out there, I get "colle de poisson" or "colle d'amidon")
- balloons
- crêpe paper
- glue stick
- cardstock (blue, yellow and black)
- a print out of the minion goggles - found HERE and resized to fit your minion.
Start by blowing up two balloons, connect them by taping a tube of paper between the two balloons.
Prepare your glue mix and tear up some strips of newspaper.
Dip the strips in glue (they don't have to be completely covered in glue, you'll spread the
glue out after)
This does not need to be very precise - in fact, your 3 or 4 year old can do this no problem.
They'll have fun getting their fingers dirty in the glue.
Cover the balloons - try to do it evenly and not miss spots but no more than 4 layers of newspaper.
2 or 3 layers is probably enough.
Let it dry. I usually leave it overnight.
Then we cut out a little window to put the treats in the piñata once it's finished.
Start covering the piñata with crêpe paper (I actually put a coat of white paint on this one because I didn't want the newspaper to show through the yellow crêpe paper.
You can also use thin white paper instead of newspaper when you cover
the balloon to avoid this extra step.)
I did not want to do the frayed edge on the crêpe paper for this one,
so I glued it tightly to the balloon.
This is what it looked like when we were finished. It was far from even but it worked.
We printed out an eye - found HERE (I resized it in Photoshop)
The eye will be glued on at the end to cover the hole.
Cut out and draw overalls for the minion out of cardstock.
Make the back of the overalls in the same way.

Don't forget to put a string through the top of the head (get a little hand to help you if
the hole is too small for you)
Knot a bead to the end of the string so that the string doesn't come out.
Add arms and legs (made out of cardstock)
Fill the piñata with goodies.
Close the flap, secure with a piece of tape, and stick on the eye/goggles.
Hang it up and hit it!
