tarva-ikea-dresser-makeover

I painted this plain IKEA dresser for the kids’ bedroom.
I drew some flower designs in Adobe Illustrator and created vinyl stencils for the Silhouette machine.
You can download the flower designs for free here (Silhouette Studio files)

If you do not have a Silhouette cutting machine, you can download the jpeg files of the stencil designs here
They have been scaled a little to fit on A4 format sheets.

Now that you have your stencils cut out, you are ready to paint.

I started with a coat of white all over. Once that first coat was dry, I placed the stencils (the colours have no significance – some stencils are yellow, others are white, because I just used rolls of vinyl I had laying around)

When I was happy with the layout of the flower designs, I added a coat of grey.

Once it was dry, I peeled off the vinyl

I used sand paper to give the drawer a distressed look, revealing the white layer underneath.

I added some black knobs (also from IKEA)

It fits perfectly between the window and the cupboard, it’s unique and the girls think “it’s beautiful!”.
