I made a plaque to match the HOME plaque in our entrance.

I used lyrics from a song by Toad the Wet Sprocket: “Somebody told me that this is the place where everything’s better and everything’s safe”. I wanted those words hanging on our wall, as a reminder to the girls that whatever happens at school or with their friends, when they get back home, everything can be better and everything is safe.

After painting a base coat of yellow (especially around the edges) and another coat of white (all over), I placed my vinyl cutouts (these were cut using a Silhouette  machine, but you can create stencils by hand with a cutter too)

Another coat of yellow over the stencils

Then black

Remove the vinyl stencils very carefully

When the paint is dry, use sand paper to create a distressed look and reveal the yellow and white layers underneath.
